Aurorix Indications

Manerix (Aurorix) is an antidepressant drug of the reversible inhibitor of (MAOI) Monamine Oxidase Inhibitors. It is used to treat depression and panic. This medication is commonly used when other antidepressants have failed to have an effect.

Aurorix Dosage

The recommended dose range is 300 - 600 mg daily usually administered in two to three divided doses after a meal. The initial dose is 300 mg daily.

Side Effects of Aurorix

Sleep disturbances including insomnia, difficulty in falling asleep and early waking may occur. Dizziness, headache, confusion, agitation, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, paraesthesia, dry mouth, visual disturbances, gastro-intestinal complaints (such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, loss of appetite), skin reactions (such as rash, pruritus, urticaria and flushing), and hypotension may also occur. Patients with suicidal tendencies should be closely monitored at the commencement of treatment.

Precautions When Taking Aurorix

Although MAOI’s are just as effective as heterocyclic drugs, they pose potential problems because of the possible toxic food-drug interactions. If you are taking one of these, follow the dietary guidelines strictly. Do NOT eat food or drink beverages with tyramine while taking MAOI's. Among the foods that should be avoided are: Lox, Pickled Herring, Liver, Dry Sausage, Broad (fava) beans, Raisins, Figs, Avocados, Cheese (cottage and cream cheese are allowed), Yogurt, Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor, Sherry, Caffiene (coffee, tea, cocoa, or chocolate), Yeast Products, Pickles, Sauerkraut, Soy Sauce, Sour Cream, Snails or Licorice.
