Generic Celebrex Use Celecoxib or Celebrex is used to reduce pain and inflammation. With the withdrawal of Vioxx and Bextra from the market, Celebrex is the only COX-2 inhibitor currently available. How Generic Celebrex Works Celecoxib or Generic Celebrex is a COX-2 specific inhibitor. Cyclo oxygenase compounds are found throughout the body - for example, in the nervous system and stomach. COX-2 is a type of cyclo oxygenase that produces prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation. COX-1 is a type of cyclo oxygenase that is found in the stomach that helps protect the stomach lining. Thus, being specific for COX-2, Celecoxib or Generic Celebrex reduces pain and inflammation with little stomach irritation. Side Effects of Generic Celebrex Celecoxib or Generic Celebrex is generally well tolerated. It has a lower incidence of stomach side effects - irritation, ulcers, and even bleeding - than other anti inflammatory drugs. Precautions People who have a sensitivity to other anti inflammatory drugs may be able to tolerate Celecoxib or Generic Celebrex, however they should use it with caution.
