Use
Metomin is used to treat Type 2 Diabetes (Non-Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus).
Dosage
You should use Metomin only as directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medication with out consulting your doctor first. In many cases you will be prescribed one 500mg Metomin tablet 3 times daily, while the 850mg tablets are usually taken twice daily to give effective diabetes control. In some cases Metomin will be combined with a dosage of insulin or sulphonylurea to maintain blood sugar levels. This course of treatment should be monitored closely to prevent hypoglycaemia in patients.
Side effects
The prevalence of side effects from taking Metomin are considered to be rare. However, some people may experience shakiness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, sweating, blurred vision, headache, numbness or tingling of the mouth, fatigue, pale color, suddenly feeling hungry. Be sure to have your blood sugar levels checked regularly to avoid hyperglycaemia (a high blood suger level) resulting in more serious health problems. Some people may experience more serious side effects such as seizures, loss of consciousness, skin rash, itching or redness, exaggerated sunburn, yellowing of the skin or eyes, light-colored stools, dark urine, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, sore throat. You must seek urgent medical attention if you have experienced ay of side effects after taking Metomin.
Precautions
If you have had a history of heart, pituitary, or thyroid disease ;any adrenal gland problems; a severe infection; or hormone problems you must consult your doctor before using Metomin. You should tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including homeopathic remedies, as these other medications may interfere with the ability of Metomin to control your blood sugar level.
