Use
Imigran is part if the group of medications known as Triptans. They are used to treat the affects of migraine headaches, although they do cure the condition or prevent migraine headaches from occurring. Imigran works by halting the dilation of blood vessels in brain and by also blocking the release of chemicals in the brain that carry pain messages to other parts of the brain.
Dosage
Typical dosage instructions say that one tablet be taken at the first on set of migraine symptoms. If this does not relieve the symptoms, your doctor may consent to a second tablet at least 2 hours after the first tablet. You should not take more than 200mg of Imigran in a 24 hour period.
Side effects
The side effects from taking Imigran are considered rare or uncommon. However, you may experience:
- flushing
- tingling feeling
- feeling of warmth or heaviness
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- upset stomach
- diarrhea
- vomiting
- irritation of the nose
- muscle cramps
Other more serious reactions may also occur on extremely rare occasions to some patients. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should seek urgent medical attention.
- pain or tightness in chest or throat
- sudden or severe stomach pain
- fast heartbeat
- difficulty breathing
- wheezing
- redness, swelling, or itching of the eyelids, face, or lips
- skin rash, lumps, or hives
- change in vision
Precautions
Combining Imigran with other medications can cause serious or unwanted side effects. You are advised to tell your doctor or medical professional if you are taking any other medication, including homeopathic remedies. in particular your doctor will need to know if you are taking any medicines containing fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline as well as vitamin supplements.
If you have taken any MAO Inhibitor, tranylcypromine or any other medications to treat migraines you should not take Imigran.
If you have a history of high blood pressure, heart attacks, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, stroke, kidney or liver disease you should speak to your doctor about the suitability of Imigran for your condition.
