Use
Suminat Nasal Spray is for the treatment of migraine headaches. It is not suitable as a preventative for the attacks and does not reduce the number or frequency of attacks. Your doctor may prescribe Suminat Nasal Spray for other conditions.

Dosage and Application
Suminat Nasal Spray should be taken at the first sign of a migraine headache. Each spray contains 20mg of Sumatriptan. One dose of the spray is usally enough and it is applied by spraying the medication up one nostril. Your doctor may approve a second application 2 hours after the first if the symptoms of a migraine persists. You are strongly advised to follow the directions from your doctor when taking this medication.

Do not take more than 40mg Sumatriptan in any one 24 hour period.

Side effects
Side effects from taking Suminat Nasal Spray are considered rare. Some side effects you may experience include:

  • nasal irritation
  • muscle cramping
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • stomach pain or discomfort
  • dizziness
  • drowsiness
  • tingling sensations
Contact your doctor or medical professional is these side effects persist.

Some patients can experience an allergic reaction to Suminat Nasal Spray, although this is considered extremely rare. If you experience:

  • chest pains
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of the face, tongue or neck
  • a skin rash
  • blurred vision
you should discontinue use and seek medical attention urgently.

Precautions
Combining Suminat Nasal Spray with other medicines, including homeopathic medications, can result in serious side effects or otherwise reduce the effectiveness of this medication. You should tell your doctor if you are taking any other medication, but especially if you are taking medicines containing:

  • fluoxetine such as Prozac or Sarafem
  • fluvoxamine such as Luvox
  • paroxetine such as Paxil
  • sertraline such as Zoloft
  • as well as any vitamin supplements

If you have taken a MAO inhibitor medcation such as Nardil or Parnate during the past 2 weeks, do not use Suminat Nasal Spray.

Do not use Suminat Nasal Spray in combination with other migraine medications such Migranal, Sansert, Amerge, Maxalt or Zomig. Some of these medications are known by other names. You should consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure whether are taking any of these medications.

If you have a family history of heart, kidney or liver disease, or suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes you should talk to your doctor about whether Suminat Nasal Spray is suitable treatment for your migraines.

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Suminat Nasal Spray. Alcohol can add to the drowsiness experienced from taking this medication.
