Dutasteride as a Hair Loss Treatment
Dutasteride was originally designed to treat BPH (enlarged prostate), but was found to be an excellent hair loss treatment. Dutasteride supresses the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by 5-alpha-reductase. Dutasteride prevents hair loss by lowering DHT concentrations, the primary cause of androgenetic alopecia.
