Use Generic Trazadone (Generic Desyrel) used for the treatment of depression; however, it is sometimes prescribed as a sedative, and it also is used in combination with other drugs for the treatment of psychiatric conditions. Dosage For the treatment of depression, the typical dose for adults is 150-600 mg per day. The initial dose usually is 150 mg per day. Trazodone is given in one or more divided doses, sometimes with the largest dose at night. Doses often are adjusted slowly upwards to find the optimal dose. Elderly patients and debilitated persons may need lower doses.Your physician will tell you your recommended dosage. Side Effects Side Effects of Generic Trazodone (Generic Desyrel) may include: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting, weakness, decreased alertness, weight loss, tremor, dry mouth, tachycardia, constipation, diarrhoea, hypertension, blurred vision, excitement, restlessness, irritability, confusional states, insomnia, skin rashes and priapism. Precautions All antidepressants that increase concentrations of serotonin in the brain, including trazodone, should not be taken with MAO-inhibitors. The possibility of suicide in seriously depressed patients is inherent in the illness and may persist until significant remission occurs Therefore, prescriptions should be written for the smallest number of tablets consistent with good patient management. Hypotension, including orthostatic hypotension and syncope, has been reported to occur in patients receiving Generic Trazodone (Generic Desyrel). Concomitant administration of antihypertensive therapy with Generic Trazodone (Generic Desyrel) may require a reduction in the dose of the antihypertensive drug. Little is known about the interaction between Generic Trazodone (Generic Desyrel) and general anesthetics; therefore, prior to elective surgery, Generic Trazodone (Generic Desyrel) should be discontinued for as long as clinically feasible. As with all antidepressants, the use of Generic Trazodone (Generic Desyrel) should be based on the consideration of the physician that the expected benefits of therapy outweigh potential risk factors. |
