Use
In post menopausal women, bones can become weak and brittle decreasing mobility and quality of life. Evista is a non-hormonal treatment for osteoporosis that help build bone density making bones less likely to break. Recent studies have also shown Raloxifene medications may also assist in the treatment of breast cancer and also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Dosage
Typical prescribed dosages for Evista say that 1 tablet should taken daily. However, you should use Evista as directed by your doctor.
Side effects
Side effects are known to occur in some patients taking Evista. Some of the side effects you may experience include:
- hot flashes
- leg cramps
- hand, feet or ankle swelling
Other more serious side effects may be experienced. If you experience any of the following side effects you should seek urgent medical attention:
- sudden chest pain
- difficulty breathing
- pain in calves, legs, hand or feet
- blurred vision
Precautions
You must tell your doctor immediately if become pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking Evista. Evista can harm the fetus.
Taking Evista alongside other medications can cause serious or unwanted side effects. You should tell your doctor if you currently taking any other medication, including homeopathic remedies and especially if you taking anti-coagulants such as warfarin (Coumadin), cholestyramine (Questran) or colestipol (Colestid), diazepam (Valium, Valrelease, Zetran), diazoxide (Proglycem), and estrogen or hormone replacement therapy (ERT or HRT).
If you have a history of breast cancer, high cholesterol, blood clots, heart or liver disease then talk to your doctor about the suitability of Evista for treating your condition. You doctor may prescribe a lesser dosage or suggest an alternative medication.
Taking Raloxifene medications increases the risk of blood clots. Avoid long periods of inactivity while taking this medication.
