Use
Osteofos is the generic version of Fosamax and is used to treat osteoporosis and other bone mineral density disorders such as Paget's disease in both men and women. Studies at the Stanford School of Medicine in California have also linked bone density medications such as Osteofos and Fosamax as being beneficial to women with type 2 diabetes as they are of particular risk of bone fractures.
Dosage
Based on your condition your doctor or medical professional will be able to recommend the correct dosage for your needs. Typical dosage instructions for Osteofos 10mg say that it can be once taken daily. While the typical dosage instructions for the Osteofos 70mg recommend it be taken once weekly. However, you are strongly advised to follow your doctor's instructions when taking this medication.
When taking either the 10mg or 70mg tablets you should stay fully upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication to decrease the risk of heartburn.
Take the tablets with a full glass of water and swallow the tablets whole. Do not suck or chew on the tablets. You should avoid taking the tablets with mineral water,coffee, orange juice, milk or any other dairy products.
Side effects
Side effects from taking Osteofos are considered to rare. However, you may experience:
- gas
- bloating
- constipation
- diarrhea
- stomach irritation and / or upsets
- acid reflux
- headache
- muscle or bone pain
Some may experience other reactions to this medication which may result is serious side effects. You should urgent medical attention if you experience:
- pain or difficulty swallowing
- chest pain
- new or worsening heartburn
- vomiting blood
Precautions
Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Osteofos.
Combining this medication with others can cause serious or unwanted side effects. You should notify your in particular if your are taking antacids, aspirin products, calcium products or vitamins.

- esophagus abnormalities
- ulcers
- gastritis
- heartburn
- chronic stomach problems
